In One Night by D.T. Jenkins
(Fiction / Romance)

In One Night is a beguiling romance novel that expresses the sincerity and strength of love – particularly Black love. Written by author D.T. Jenkins, the book serves as a reminder that love is something that should be celebrated, and is filled with beauty and endless possibilities.
The novel introduces you to the protagonist, John. Like many of us, John has been hurt, broken, and has been hardened by the cruelties of life. He is trying his best to put his life back together and forgive himself for his past mistakes. But it is much easier said than done. Life and fate work in some interesting ways – and his path soon crosses with a familiar love interest.
When they reconnect, he feels like she is the answer he desperately needs. She is the person who can help him heal, move forward, and live his life unburdened by weight of his past. She brings light, warmth, and happiness deep into his soul. She is the answer to his questions, she is his source of healing.
Despite all of this, there’s a haunting feeling looming in his spirit. There’s something about the darkness and the night that just keeps pulling him back. As his story plays out, you’ll find out if love is strong enough to allow even the deepest wounds heal – and a damaged heart become whole again. It’s a thought-provoking story that chronicles not only the journey of love – but the journey of being human in a world that is both incredibly beautiful and profoundly sad.
This book warmed my heart and affected me in numerous ways because it’s so much more than a love story. It’s a story about being human. Most of us can identify with John. No matter how much joy lays ahead of us, sometimes, we’re still feeling drops of rain on our shoulders. A culmination of trauma, mental illness, and the realities of human emotion work against us in ways that prevent us from achieving true happiness. Even when there’s the most beautiful thing in front of us, we frequently find ourselves hesitant to pursue and enjoy it because we’re bogged down by the pain of yesterday. But with this book, we are reminded that no one who feels this way is alone. We learn that there is light in front of us for a reason, because we’re supposed to embrace it. We’re supposed to heal, and we’re supposed to love.
D.T. Jenkins does a marvelous job sharing a rather profound message throughout the novel. The characters are rich with complexities and heart. You’ll have a hard time putting this book down. It’s available in any format that you choose to enjoy books – print, eBook, and audiobook.
