Book of the Day 8/17/22: If You Touch, I’ll Tell

If You Touch, I’ll Tell by Dr. Shamina Aubuchon

(Family & Relationships / Child Abuse)

Our Book of the Day is a powerful resource for children to learn how to stay safe and protect themselves from predators. Written by Dr. Shamina Aubuchon, If You Touch, I’ll Tell teaches kids how to use their voice power to deactivate predators and shield themselves from harm.

Dr. Aubuchon joined CBS Mornings to discuss the book and share ways that children could speak up when they find themselves in uncomfortable situations.

A survivor of child sexual abuse, Dr. Aubuchon now uses her platform to advocate for children who face those horrifying and traumatizing situations. Writing this book was her purpose – and it’s inspiring that she had the courage to do so.

When introducing the book on CBS Mornings, Gayle King emphasized its significance. She shared how difficult it could be to talk about the topic of child abuse, and mentioned that it is the reason why we need books like this. Because it’s uncomfortable to talk about this, many avoid the topic all together – and children end up suffering because of it. I’m so grateful for this book because I know that it shares information that will protect and save lives.

The book is filled with easy-to-read language and colorful illustrations, making it accessible for early readers who are at vulnerable stages of life. It reminds kids that their bodies may be small, but their voices are mighty. The book is both informative and interactive – as every book comes with five paper cutouts that can be attached to your child’s backpack or lunchbox. They serve as a warning to predators that the child has been educated about inappropriate touching and knows how to harness their voice power.

It takes courage, strength, and a whole lot of creativity to write a book as influential as If You Touch, I’ll Tell. Children face potential harm on a daily basis. With this book, they’ll learn how to protect themselves. Prevention is always better than a cure.
