I was so impressed with her book. Heroes Live Here is a fantastic tribute to the fallen heroes of the post 9/11 generation. A combat veteran herself, Forsythe shares insights that are personal, vulnerable, and real. Her experiences have allowed her to gain a profound perspective that can only be acquired from time spent in a combat zone.
Heroes Live Here is a breathtaking reading experience that combines compelling photos with well-researched writing. The book will help you appreciate and remember the thousands of Marines and Sailors from a great base who have worn the cloth of our nation and served in some of the most defining conflicts of the last two decades. Obviously, this is a wonderful book for veterans and military families, but it also is an important read for those who have no association with any of the military branches. Everyone can use it as a reminder to appreciate and honor those who sacrificed everything for us to live free and safe lives.
Before reading the book, I had limited knowledge about Camp Pendleton. It was fascinating to learn about and experience the rich history of this base. Since 1942, Marines and Sailors have deployed from the base to serve in conflicts around the world. Some of these include the battles of the Pacific Theater during World War II, the Korean Peninsula, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and most recently, Afghanistan and Iraq. Some of the vignettes in this book are heart wrenching, and others are heartwarming. But all need to be read. After reading, you will have a deeper understanding of the base that championed many of our nation’s bravest men and women. The book is the product of brilliant research and captivating first-hand accounts that you’ll never forget.
