Before reading the book, I had limited knowledge about Camp Pendleton. It was fascinating to learn about and experience the rich history of this base. Since 1942, Marines and Sailors have deployed from the base to serve in conflicts around the world. Some of these include the battles of the Pacific Theater during World War II, the Korean Peninsula, Vietnam, Desert Storm, and most recently, Afghanistan and Iraq. Some of the vignettes in this book are heart wrenching, and others are heartwarming. But all need to be read. After reading, you will have a deeper understanding of the base that championed many of our nation’s bravest men and women. The book is the product of brilliant research and captivating first-hand accounts that you’ll never forget.
