Farkle Finds His Furever Home by Wendy Johnson
(Juvenile Fiction / Pets)

If you are a dog lover, get the tissues ready, and experience a heartwarming tale about love, acceptance, and never giving up. Our Book of the Day, Farkle Finds His Furever Home, is the first book in the Farkle and Friends book series and it is a story that you will never forget.
Based on a true story, the book begins as a dog named Farkle gets abandoned at the local shelter by his former family. Just in the first few pages, the book tugged at my heartstrings. The storytelling and compelling illustrations show little Farkle alone, afraid, and abandoned at the shelter. Farkle thinks to himself, “I guess they didn’t love me as much as I loved them.”
I fell in love with Farkle, and wanted so badly to save him in that moment. It made me think of all of the other rescue dogs – who love unconditionally – only to be left alone in a strange, frightening place. Through the elegant illustrations, you can see the fear and sadness in his eyes. Once in a happy home, he now finds himself in a cold scary cage surrounded by other dogs who also are lost and afraid.

Although the story’s beginning fills your eyes with tears of sadness and sympathy, it ends by filling them with tears of joy. While at the shelter, Farkle meets a wise old beagle named Miles. He helps Farkle understand why they aren’t getting adopted. As he learns that he has special needs, he fears that no one will ever adopt and love him. But then, a woman enters the rescue, and it might just be his chance to find his forever home.
I’m so grateful for this story, and I’m excited to share it with this community of readers. Whether or not you have dogs, Farkle Finds His Furever Home is a story that you will fall in love with. Author Wendy Johnson, the founder of Touch of Grey Rescue, shares Farkle’s story in a way that children will understand, and adults like myself will embrace. Readers of all ages will find themselves falling in love with little Farkle and cheering for him every step of the way.
In addition to being a delightful story, the book also educates readers on issues like pet abandonment, overcrowded shelters, and the importance of animal rescue. So, if you are looking for a story that teaches lessons on love, and captures the beauty of our bond with animals, this is it. Wendy Johnson’s book is an outstanding work of children’s literature, and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
A portion of proceeds from every book sale will go to Touch of Grey Rescue, a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization that saves over 100 senior and special needs dogs every year.
