Meet one of our newest children’s book authors, Roslyn Davis! She is an impactful storyteller who uses her voice and platform to support adopted children and those in foster care.
Roslyn is an adoption advocate and her new book I Am Precious, I am Loved is available for purchase on BookBaby Bookshop. It is scheduled to be released to all other retailers on August 9th, 2022!

I always say that writers write what they know. The best authors create stories based on who they are, where they have been, and who they have become. Experience-based expression is what makes storytelling so special and meaningful, and that is what makes Roslyn’s book impactful.
Roslyn herself was adopted. Born in Washington but raised on the east coast as an adoptee, she understands the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that adopted children face on a daily basis. Inspired to support children today and in future generations, she wrote this wonderful book.
I Am Precious, I Am Loved creates a positive journey for children who need it most. Roslyn is an influential writer, and an inspirational person. I hope you take the time to learn more about Roslyn and her book with our recent question and answer session.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
Roslyn: As an adolescent I wrote poetry, but I never thought that when I got older, I would write “professionally”. So, I honestly woke up one day and said I am going to write a Children’s Book.
What inspired you to write I Am Precious, I Am Loved
Roslyn: The storyline is based on my personal experiences as an adopted child.
How long did it take you to make this book a reality?
Roslyn: It took me two tries to fully complete this project. The first attempt I never finished everything entirely. Once I was ready to try again, I started from scratch, and it took 6 months to complete all new illustrations and get distribution ready.
Did you learn anything about yourself when writing your book?
Roslyn: I was reminded how creative my mind can be, I also learned more about my upbringing that’ll help me help others.
What is your message for adopted children who are struggling emotionally?
Roslyn: The message I want adopted children to walk away remembering is that “they are precious, they are loved”. Throughout my book including the cover title its written “I Am Precious, I Am Loved”. I want all children to say this line, remember it, and believe it!
Although it is early on, have you heard from you readers yet? If so, what are they saying?
Roslyn: Yes I have. I have received all positive feedback such as: “This book touches my heart deeply”. “Ever wondered how to start a conversation with you child or student about adoption or understanding their emotions? I Am Precious, I Am Loved is the perfect tool to break the ice”. “I highly recommend this as a great social-emotional resource to the parents and educators of K-3 students”. “This book will help many children”. “I am an adoptive parent and I wish there had been books like this for my treasure”.
Do you have plans for future books and projects?
Roslyn: Absolutely, my main goal is to turn my main character Skylar into a 30 minute segment tv series or a 3–5-minute short series to be streamed on one of the many platforms available such as Noggin, PBS Kids, Paramount, Disney Jr, etc.
I also am interested making more adoption themed books with my same character, Skylar, as well.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with your reading community?
Roslyn: I want all kids to know that I represent you! I have been a foster child, an adoptee, a stepchild, a biological child, and even an in-law. All I have known growing up were blended families and I’ve experienced them all. No matter what makes up your family dynamic, always remember you are loved and always remember to love.
I have never fully understood what my niche is or what exactly I enjoy doing, but I am happy to say that I know now. And that is to widen this small margin for the adoption and foster community; to provide updated resources for families that makes their journey enjoyable and not afflicting.
Stay tuned because there will be more from author Roslyn Davis and character Skylar in the future! Her book is an absolute homerun and must-read for adoptees and blended families. In fact, its lessons are important and relevant for every family. If you are looking for a new children’s book, or a meaningful family story, get a copy of I Am Precious, I Am Loved.
